Choosing A Name For Your Restaurant

Choosing the right name will help you sell your product, stick with your customers and influence your decorating and advertising.

You will want your customers to be able to remember and spell your name in case they need to look it up in the directory or write you a check.

Think about how will your name represents what you have to offer on your menu. Will it set you apart from your competition?

Remember business names can already be taken and registered under a trademark, which means they have the exclusive right to use it in a geographical area. If you have infringed on someone else's name, it could cost you money.

Registering your name:

You will need to register your business name with your state. You can do this by contacting the Secretary of State's office and requesting the forms that you will need to fill out. Also, ask them how to search for state trade marks to see if any part of your name is registered. You may need to do this, also, in your county at your county clerk's office.

Check to see if and part of your name is a Federally Registered Trademark. http://tess2.uspto.gov/
